Bibliotherapy

Bibliotherapy is the use of reading materials to help people deal with emotional problems, and to promote mental health. Children who are having problems in their lives can read about other children who share the same experiences, needs, and conflicts as they do. As well, it gives them opportunities to grow by seeing the world as it is, learning about topics other people don’t like to talk about, correcting their mistaken beliefs, and learning about what is right and wrong. Reading also can give children a number of emotional experiences: developing an understanding of themselves and other people, building up their self-esteem, identifying feelings, gaining an awareness of unconscious conflicts, and clarifying what is important to them.
